Say hello to Kami! UI design

Whilst working for Avast me and another designer teamed up to create a mascot for the company Kamo. Kamo is an online security company which was owned by Avast. Together we created Kami the Chameleon who assists customers and helps them stay protected whilst using the app. As well as designing the UI, we also introduced him onto marketing materials such as a release campaigns for Kamo.

UI copywriting that supports the illustration/icon:

To support the illustration of Kami we also updated the copy and used language like 'You're camouflaged' instead of 'You're hidden' to add more personality to the costumers experience.

Loading screen UI illustration:

We also made actions like the screen loading more humorous by animating Kami to catch flies while you wait. This again, made the user experience more memorable.

Usability hub testing

Once Kami illustrations received positive feedback from the team and wider company, we ran localised Usability tests across Kamo’s top consumer countries to gain further insight. Transferring the results to a spreadsheet, we reviewed and themed the responses to discover that Kami brought happiness but needed to be used effectively to help users understand the app.
